More terrain and big changes.

Wow I have posted on here since Afghanistan, been sooooo busy sorry bout that I will make a concentrated effort to chronicle my adventures and ideas and guess what. Sara and I are moving!!!!! Also I am out of the Army! Big changes all around! I also wanted to post some more terrain links as I have gotten into Papercraft though I have yet to make a model I have a ton of models that I bought During deployment. Heres the links please support them.

Fat Dragon Games run by the amazing Tom Tullis this site has got tons of fantasy modern and scifi papercraft. Updates Frequently. Get Everything.....seriously why are you still reading this... Do it....Now. ^^

Lord ZseZse Works Great 2D tilesets, they are doing an amazing 3D set for elves. Check em out!

WorldWorksGames These Guys have some cool terrain but I think they are done the business and the rumor is they are closing the site in November as they began working on video games. Cool One shots like Pharaoh's Descent and the Mayhem Mall.

Dave Graffam's Models Just started getting some of these, seems like nice models but he seems to sell building by building rather than sets. Nice pieces though.

Finger and Toe Models really cool models as they seem to operate doing eccentric themes. I got the wizards tower and I might pick up some Aztec. Worth a look.

Nothing of me is original.

"Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everyone I've ever known." - Chuck Palahniuk

Okay so as the title and quote suggest I am not about to break new ground here. What will follow below and hopefully in future entries is simply a different perspective on D&D settings. I can't claim any of this a stroke of genius or some wonderful plan I have had going. I have been inspired by video games, myths, movies, books, friends and family. Art of one thing has been tweaked and reshaped in my head to become something else. good gripping points from different art mediums have combined in new ways. So witness my salad of perspective enjoy and use what you can take it use and dream of new stories ideas and art.

A study of Tellus.

Tellus is a world on the brink of disaster, it a world with age and more importantly a world of myth and magic. There are stories hidden in the vast ocean, the long stretches of desert, the lush forest, the murky swamps, the mountains, the plains, the towns and the frigid north.

The drow do not live underground in this setting, they worship LLoth openly in a very roman feeling nation. The people of the north are largely inspired by Celtic and Viking traditions. The southlands are a mix of lush jungle and arid desert keeping an African meets South America feel. The undead rise from ancient tombs in the deserts as savages commit horrible sacrifices to deities in temples . The river Ma'at winds through the desert making a thick jungle a few miles in each side before it gives way back to the desert. The cosmology is classic D&D. The middle lands contain A shire inspired area a great britain esque nation seperated by classic fantasy feeling forests and mountains filled with elves, dwarves and other things. Dwarves are at war with other clans Druegar and Frost dwarves in their search for precious metals and stones. Coastal nations are remiscent of ancient greece and china and are much more peaceful culturally than their counterpart across the sea the drow. Islands dot the sea and are split into three groupings. The first is very pirates of the Carribbean feeling, the second being a Steampunk feeling Feudal Japan and the last being a new society of Mind Flayers who have broken away from the Drow. But this is all teasers for now. I shall work on giving more solid updates even as I plan and plot.

Till later Gamers

Last time I threw out some great online links today I am going to shoot out three physical places.
The first place is Jungle Jake's in Hinesville Georgia. Jungle Jake's is a great place for kids, adults, beginners, or veterans of RPG's, Painting, Wargaming and Magic the Gathering. There are many great talented artists there who have taught me a lot. The only drawback is the times they are open which make a lot of sense since this a family owned and operated business and no gaming is more important that. They have a limited comic collection and most cater to Warhammer and Dust Tactics crowds but they are more than willing to order anything they can for ya.
Rating 4 out of 5.

The second will be MorningStar Games and Comics in Savannah Georgia. MorningStar is a moderately sized gaming store that is well stocked for Magic the gathering and Warhammer. I enjoy their selection and their previously loved minis section. The only drawback here seems to be its a bit noisy store which makes it harder to run rpg's also it may be due to lack of personnel but some staff seem slightly distanced and uncertain of the stock they sell.
Rating 3 out of 5.

The third and final store is actually located in Salisbury, Maryland. This is a very near and dear store to my heart but I shall try to remain unbiased. The Store is Illusions Games and Comics. It is another medium sized store with great stock in comics, board games, RPG's and Magic the Gathering but its stock in Wargaming and wargaming paint materials seems limited. The Store is at war with its greatest asset as stock is bountiful but sometimes eats at floor space. The Store is a little hard to find being on the back end of Strip mall. However on a positive note, Games are run here frequently with knowledgeable DM's and referees, Stock again is great to find hard to find pieces and The staff is knowledgeable about the products they sell as they have many of the same interests as the customers who come here.
Rating 4 out 5.

All right so right down to some business (so to speak) I am going to post some links for some terrain. I like Wizards of the coast terrain maps, but I love throwing in a touch of something more substantial. Having some 3D terrain just seems to makes battles and role playing pop. So without further ado 3 great sites from expensive to cheap.

For some extremely good resin miniatures terrain http://tabletop-world.com/ is great. Very detailed oriented minatures. They come unpainted and unassembled but thats is just a plus in my mind. The only con seems to be that it operates on the Euro and is a bit pricy.

The second site has some amazing prepainted resin and plastic models with a lot of variance. The quality is good and the price is good the only downside seems to be the selection for fantasy but I am sure that will grow in time. Check em out! http://www.flamesofwar.com/gf9online_store.aspx?CategoryID=13170 (bonus for some D&D fans they have finecast dnd minis that need some painting and assembly love but they are amazing casts of lloth, beholders, drow, and mind flayers)

On the low side of cost but not quality is a papercraft miniature company that has a large selection from modern to fantasy to everything between at reasonable prices. The models take a little to assemble but look great once done and are certainly the easiest to make mass quantities of. Here it is http://www.worldworksgames.com

Thats all for now, but rest assured I will find new sites and send em on to you.
Game On!!!

Welcome

Hello and welcome to Dwarven Ale! My name is Daniel Mullinix and I will be a fellow explorer in the wonderful world of tabletop gaming and pen & paper Role Playing Games. To give a little bit of background,   I was introduced to Role Playing Games such as Dungeons and Dragons around 2005 at Illusions Games and Comics. I have been fortunate enough to get a chance to play 3.5 and 4E for Dungeons and Dragons, I have also been lucky enough to play Scion, Exalted, and Adventure by White Wolf Gaming. Other Games I have run or played in has been Deadlands, Deadlands: Reloaded, Serenity, Star Wars Saga Edition and L5R. I have gotten other books and other games I would love to run.

Gaming as a pastime and a hobby has been very good for me. I have made some very good friends and have been amazingly blessed by meeting a wonderful and amazing woman who would become my friend, my fellow gamer and eventually marriage. She is just incredible and I do not have enough words to describe that.
Now to get back on track my wife and I have gotten into painting miniatures and making terrain. I would love to show pictures of current projects and games but I fear updates will be slow for a slight while until I get back from my Deployment in Afghanistan; however I will share ideas websites and whatever pictures I can do.
